2.1) A little side trip

Updated: Mar 14, 2021

The last two verses in Exodus 3 struck me as a woman (who appreciates gold, silver, and clothes) because Yahweh has a specific role for the Israelite women in His grand plan:

"And I will give this people favor in the sight of the Egyptians; and when you go, you shall not go empty, but each woman shall ask of her neighbor, and any woman who lives in her house, for silver and gold jewelry, and for clothing. You shall put them on your sons and on your daughters. So you shall plunder the Egyptians.”

Because of the word "favor," I do not get the sense that Egyptians were giving away their silver, gold and clothing begrudgingly just to hurry the Israelites out of town. I believe part of Yahweh's plan included hardening the heart of pharoah as well as softening the hearts of Egyptian women such that when asked, they freely gave their valuables to the Israelite women. These items were not taken by force nor stolen. Now, who better to go on a shopping spree than women?!

Someone pointed out in our Zoom discussion that the slave women were probably at the bottom of society. Yahweh provided for their families' material needs and on top of that, elevated their value by assigning a unique role in the Israelite's exodus. I hope you get a chance to wander around the Scriptures beyond the assigned verse. When traveling, sometimes your favorite places are the side trips you take.
