Exodus 3:14 (ESV) God said to Moses, “I AM who I AM.” And He said, “Say this to the people of Israel: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”
Last week we were introduced to Elohim, which was used more like a title name that expresses who God is as the powerful and mighty Creator God. This week, we learn about Yahweh which is the actual name God calls Himself. A personal name in a similar sense that we all have names. Inside your journal, you will find some background information and definition of Yahweh.
At this time in his life, Moses is an ordinary guy tending a flock. In Exodus 3:4, The Lord appears to Moses in a burning bush and calls out, "Moses, Moses." During this conversation, Moses asks what God's name is. I find that the Lord revealing God's name punctuates that He is a relational God. "Tell them Yahweh sent you" (my paraphrase). In verses 7-9, the Lord explains that He sees the affliction of His people; He knows their suffering; He hears their cries. He lays out His plan (and promise) for deliverance and gives Moses instructions what to do.
The Great I AM, He sees you and He hears you. He knows all of eternity, your past, your present, and your future. Yes, you can have a relationship with the Elohim of this universe and His name is Yahweh. That's incredible!

HAYAH !! Nice word picture.
Makes me think of POWER.
and amen Tammy!
Once again, the Hebrew words spoke to me in this verse. Haya, is the word for I AM or I WILL BE. (I clicked on the speaker in Strong's online and it sounds like a karate chop.) I noticed that it is the same word used in creation for "Let there be" such as "Let there be light." God was answering Moses's question by affirming and establishing His Eternal Identity and His role as the Creator of all the earth. God's confidence in His identify demonstrated to Moses that he could also have confidence because he was being sent by God to the people chosen by God.
God has confidence in His identity, and we can also have confidence in…
