7) Jehovah Tsidkenu

Jeremiah 33:16 (ESV) In those days Judah will be saved, and Jerusalem will dwell securely. And this is the name by which it will be called: ‘The Lord is our righteousness.’

The names we have looked into over the past six weeks have occurred in the earlier portions of Scriptures. This week we find the name Jehovah Tsidkenu in the the book of Jeremiah, more than 1400 years after God's promise to Abraham. At this time, the nations of Israel and Judah have both strayed from the Lord and the prophet Jeremiah is imprisoned in the royal courtyard by the king of Judah. God tells Jeremiah that the Babylonians will come to destroy the city of Judah and warns, "I will hide my face from this city because of all its wickedness" (Jer. 33:5). This is the very bad news.

But with God, there is always GOOD NEWS! Set aside time to travel through the rest of Jeremiah 33, it is full of good news. This is where God promises the Righteous Branch who will bring justice and righteousness, security and restoration. Hallelujah for this!
